Hence improving their filters to work better on small speeds. Luckily, most air purifiers are bound by energy standards which a large percentage of companies abide by.īlueair is no exception, in fact, they do their utmost to make sure their units are as energy-efficient as possible. When energy prices move around as much as a motorized yo-yo, you want to know that the price of clean air isn’t going to bankrupt you. To give you an idea, I pitted the 411 against Ludwig Van to see who made the most noise. I was using this speed in the bedroom when I was elsewhere so the air was pure for my arrival. This is nowhere near a Motorhead concert but you will notice it in smaller rooms. On its highest setting, the 411 can reach up to 46 dB. If you’re watching the television, chilling in the den, or listening to music whilst you cook, then you most likely won’t hear the 411 capturing nasty particles around you.

It’s by no means loud but in a silent room, you can hear it running. Switch it up to the second setting and you start to hear the fan at work. But after having it on for an hour, you can tell that it is definitely doing its job, just super sneakily. At first, I didn’t really trust it was actually doing anything on this setting as it was so quiet. On its lowest setting, you will barely even notice it’s emitting around 17 dB. Levoit Core 300 (intended for 219 sq ft, $99) = 49 minutesĭyson HP04 (intended for 290 sq ft, $799) = 1 hour and 24 minutesĭue to the HEPAsilent technology, Blueair has built into the 411, this unit is one of the quietest on the market. To say this is a small unit, costing under $100, in a room over triple the size intended, I was a little surprised with its performance.Ĭompare it to other units in this size and price range and you’ll see it did pretty well, not great, but pretty well. Overall it took the 411 – 1 hour 8 minutes to clear the whole room. It begins to taper off at the half-hour mark and begins to struggle to remove the last few pollutants from the room. You can see the decline on the graph that the Blueair fights hard and fast to remove the large harmful particles in the air. We turned the 411 on at 19:00 and left the room. When you get this build-up simply remove it and put it straight in the wash. This was a strong indicator that it’s doing its job better than I expected. I was shocked, to be honest, I like to think I keep a clean house. Within days I noticed how much dust the pre-filter had collected. This basically means it uses two filters in one so it doesn’t need to work as hard, meaning less energy is used and less noise is produced. They champion their version which they’ve called HEPASilent.

Blueair has taken this technology and advanced upon it for the Blue range. They capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns (basically the size of dust) which will leave your air fresh and allergen-free.

You may have heard about HEPA filters, they are the industry standard for air purification nowadays. The 411 houses a three-part filtration system consisting of a washable fabric pre-filter, a HEPASilent filter, and an activated carbon filter that takes care of those unwanted household odors like cooking, pets, and pooping. The lights dim after a while so they’re not intrusive to sleep, although I think it would be better if they turned all the way off. The three lights indicate which setting you’re currently on.
